Sometimes its a matter of luck if an employer contacts a job seeker for an interview based on this document. Resume websites provide a more detailed look into a job seekers qualifications and accomplishments. When a job seeker has the necessary qualifications and provides an employer with a link to a resume website the employer will be intrigued because the job applicant is utilizing the latest technology and going over and beyond what is required. If the resume website is done right and includes a resume page an about me page (bio) accomplishments page and images (pictures are worth a thousand words) it will greatly increase the job seekers chances of getting an interview.
There are different resume formats for presenting your details. Out of all these formats, three formats are most often used depending on the position applied and the qualifications of the applicant. These formats are -
Tailor the resume to the job description Make sure that every time you apply for a job that you adjust your resume to the particular place you are applying. Read through the job description and make notes of any areas being focused on. Make sure to add information to your resume that highlights your abilities in those areas and makes you more attractive for the particular position you are applying for.
Make your resume original Make sure your resume stands out from the crowd. Dont be afraid of trying something different or breaking from the mold. Sometimes a little creativity can garner enough attention to get your resume read which can make all the difference. Dont overdo it though. Being wacky or silly may be a part of your personality but usually is not a desirable quality in the work place. Photos are usually a bad idea as well. Be creative but keep it simple to avoid drawing attention away from what is really important.
Functional resumes are good when you have little to zero work experience (or new grads). This type of resume allows you to showcase skills that fit in with the job requirements. Fair warning: most recruiters and hiring managers dont like this format and feel as though you may be hiding something. If you have a chronological resume you do not want to have one part chronological and one part functional because it will throw off the entire formatting and may confuse the employer about your skill set.
